|
Since July 1987, the screening of blood donors for HIV has been performed in Korea.
Until Dec. 1990, 3,606, 139 donors were screened for anti-HIV and tweenty-two cases were found to be positive.
The anti-HIV screening test was perfor med by enzyme immunoassay method (Dong-A Pharm., Green Cross Corp., Seoul Korea).
The results of all repeatedly reactive sera for anti-HIV on ELISA test were confirmed by Western Blot method (Biotech/Du pont HIV Western Blot Kit. Du Pont Co., Wilmington U. S. A).
The results was interpreted as positive for HIV infection when a band was present at p24, p31 and either gp41 or gp160 on Western blot.
All of the HIV positive donors were young male and low class peple.
A case of traansfusion associated HIV infection through the transfusion of ELISA negative blood was noted.
